Latest fitness update on WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio

2 years ago By Sports Desk

Last week on WWE SmackDown, a highly anticipated match unfolded as Rey Mysterio faced off against Santos Escobar in the United States Title Invitational Final. However, the bout took an unexpected turn as Mysterio sustained an injury during the match.

During the contest, WWE’s medical staff attended to Mysterio after he was seemingly injured, prompting the referee to ultimately halt the match. Santos Escobar was declared the victor due to the circumstances. It was reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Mysterio experienced being “knocked silly” twice during the match. After the second instance of this, the decision was made to conclude the bout.

WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio set for lengthy absence from the WWE?

As of now, there hasn’t been a definitive update on the extent of Rey Mysterio’s injury or how long he might be sidelined from in-ring action. Despite conflicting reports, the latest information from “Wrestling Observer Radio” indicates that Mysterio’s overall condition is believed to be fine, although the presence of a potential concussion or any future time off remains uncertain.

According to Dave Meltzer, Mysterio suffered two injuries:

“I guess the original injury was the cross body, the tope was the second one. But the tope, when there was two of them already, you really should stop the match, and he didn’t get up so quick from the second one. They were working on him during the commercial break, and he is fine now from what I understand. Fine is a relative term, I mean he got his bell rung twice. I don’t know if he has a concussion, I don’t know if he is taking time off. I haven’t been told anything apart from that he’s fine. That’s essentially what happened there.”

The injury occurred when Mysterio faced a suicide dive from Santos Escobar outside the ring, resulting in his head hitting the floor. This prompted the referee to stop the match momentarily, allowing doctors to assess Mysterio’s condition. Fortunately, by the conclusion of the segment, Mysterio managed to stand on his own and even congratulated Escobar on his victory, showing his professionalism and sportsmanship.

Initially, there was speculation that the incident might have been part of a storyline, but this was later clarified by Fightful, confirming that it was indeed a genuine injury. Although Mysterio’s return timeline remains uncertain, Escobar’s victory has earned him a shot at the United States Championship. He is slated to face Austin Theory for the title on the upcoming edition of “SmackDown,” with the incident not significantly altering WWE’s pre-existing plans for the wrestlers involved.
