Josh Mathews doesn’t have regrets over WWE exit

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Josh Mathews, a familiar name in the world of WWE, recently sat down for an illuminating conversation on Road Dogg’s “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast.

During the exchange, Mathews delved into his time as a WWE commentator and offered candid insights into his evolving mentality. His journey from WWE to his current role in Impact Wrestling reflects a transformation in perspective that has shaped his career trajectory.

Josh Mathews learned a lot during experience as WWE commentator

Mathews, who spent over a decade with WWE from 2001 to 2014, opened up about his changing mindset. He expressed a sense of appreciation for his WWE tenure, contrasting his previous perspective as a younger individual. Reflecting on his early 20s to 30s when he worked for WWE, Mathews admitted that he now sees those years as a significant opportunity for growth and learning. He likened his time with WWE to attending “WWE University,” emphasizing the wealth of experience and knowledge he gained during his tenure.

Mathews provided a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of WWE during his time with the company. He described travel moments alongside WWE personnel, shedding light on a relaxed atmosphere where camaraderie was evident. Mathews revealed that he sometimes found himself on the same jet as fellow WWE personnel for logistical reasons, not necessarily by choice. He noted a contrast between his initial intensity and the more laid-back ambiance of his colleagues. He acknowledged that his perception had evolved, realizing that his high-stress attitude wasn’t always necessary.

Mathews’ career trajectory showcases his versatility within the wrestling industry. He entered the scene as a participant in WWE’s reality show “Tough Enough” before transitioning into roles such as backstage interviewer and commentator. Following his 2014 release from WWE, Mathews joined TNA (now Impact Wrestling) as a play-by-play announcer. In 2021, he took on a behind-the-scenes role as Senior Producer of Impact Wrestling.

In the podcast, Mathews discussed his current schedule alongside his wife, Madison Rayne, a coach and AEW wrestler. He expressed contentment with their arrangement, highlighting the balance they’ve achieved. Mathews indicated that he’d be content to finish his career with Impact Wrestling if given the opportunity. Although informal communications with AEW have taken place, Mathews underscored his love for Impact Wrestling and his appreciation for the current chapter of his career.
