Sheamus’ WWE Contract Is Set To Be Expired In 2024

2 years ago By Sports Desk

As the clock ticks toward 2024, the wrestling world is abuzz with speculation surrounding the future of Sheamus, the Celtic Warrior. Known for his in-ring style and red hair, the Dublin-born Superstar has carved out a remarkable career in WWE. From making his explosive debut in 2009 to becoming a four-time World Champion, Sheamus has been a cornerstone of the promotion for well over a decade. While he’s conquered several titles, engaged in memorable rivalries, and delivered high-caliber matches, a shadow now looms over his tenure: his WWE contract is slated to expire in 2024.

Recent reports have revealed the approaching end of Sheamus’s current contract, leading to a whirlpool of discussions among fans, analysts, and insiders alike. This new development has become particularly intriguing given Sheamus’s vocal grievances regarding certain aspects of his WWE career, most notably, the company’s booking decisions for him. So, will Sheamus renew his vows with WWE?

The speculation about his future could be seen as premature. It’s hard to judge if Sheamus will continue with WWE or move ahead with AEW in the near future. With a dozen titles under his belt, including World Championships and tag team titles, he’s proven his versatility from time to time.

To understand the complexity of this contractual conundrum, it’s important to delve into Sheamus’s relationship with WWE. He has expressed discontent over how the company has utilized his talents in recent years, especially concerning his tag team partnership with The Brawling Brutes. In an interview with the Daily Star, Sheamus did not hold back when discussing the missed opportunities for building on the momentum he and his partner, Gunther, had cultivated. “What I was upset about and what really bothered me was the creative after that,” he explained. “I came out of that with so much organic momentum, and it was just wasted. It didn’t go anywhere.”

WWE, with its decades-long legacy and status as the world’s largest wrestling promotion, undeniably has a vested interest in retaining a performer of his caliber. For all his expressed frustrations, WWE has afforded him a platform unlike any other, where he’s encountered legends, newcomers, and everyone in between. A talent of Sheamus’s magnitude brings credibility to any storylines, matches, or even entire divisions he’s involved in.

The dilemma, then, can be reduced to a question of priorities. Sheamus, with his impressive resume, clearly has options. Does he prioritize the familiarity and prestige of WWE, where he has achieved so much? Remaining with WWE could mean many more marquee matches and possibly additional title reigns, especially if the company addresses his concerns and optimizes his booking. Alternatively, is the allure of new challenges outside WWE too tempting to ignore? Given his standing in the industry, doors would almost certainly swing open for him elsewhere, including in rising promotions like AEW, which have been known to offer creative freedom—a potential attraction for someone who has voiced concerns over “creative.”

In this environment of uncertainty, one thing remains clear: Sheamus’s decision about his expiring WWE contract will be one of the most closely watched developments as we move closer to 2024.
