2 years ago By Jhon Woug

The UFC’s second visit to the vibrant city of Paris, France, delivered a night of thrilling fights and unforgettable moments. The Accor Arena played host to a Fight Night card that showcased top-tier talent, headlined by heavyweights Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak. Almost a year after the promotion’s first foray into France, this event did not disappoint. Let’s dive into the UFC Paris results and highlights that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Ciryl Gane’s dominant performance

In the main event, the spotlight shone on the top-ranked heavyweights, Ciryl “Bon Gamin” Gane and Sergey Spivak. Gane, coming off his second failed attempt to claim the undisputed heavyweight championship, was determined to make a statement in Paris. And make a statement, which he did.

From the opening bell, Gane’s striking prowess was on full display. His precise combinations and fluid movements left Spivak struggling to find an answer. Gane’s ability to dictate the pace of the fight was evident as he picked his shots with surgical precision.

As the rounds progressed, Gane’s dominance became even more apparent. In the second round, with 3 minutes and 44 seconds on the clock, Gane sealed the deal with a TKO victory. His relentless striking and ground control proved too much for Spivak, earning him the well-deserved win.

Gane’s victory reaffirmed his status as one of the premier heavyweights in the division and signalled his intent to make another run at the title. With this impressive performance, he undoubtedly left the Parisian crowd in awe and eagerly anticipating his next bout.

Manon Fiorot’s Flyweight Debut

The co-main event brought another intriguing matchup to the octagon as former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas made her flyweight debut against the #3-ranked Manon Fiorot. This clash of talented fighters promised fireworks, and it delivered.

Namajunas, a proven champion in her own right, was stepping into unfamiliar territory. Fiorot, on the other hand, was eager to showcase her skills and ascend the ranks in the flyweight division. What transpired was a thrilling contest that showcased the depth of talent in women’s MMA.

While Namajunas had her moments, Fiorot’s striking prowess and ability to control the distance proved pivotal. She consistently outstruck the former champion and successfully thwarted Namajunas’s attempts to take the fight to the mat.

When the final bell rang, it was Fiorot who emerged victorious with a unanimous decision. The judges’ scorecards read 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 in favour of the French fighter. Fiorot’s impressive win not only marked a successful flyweight debut but also catapulted her into the spotlight as a rising star in the division.

Volkan Oezdemir’s Submission Skills

The main card also featured former light heavyweight title challenger Volkan Oezdemir, who demonstrated his well-rounded skills by securing a first-round submission victory against Bogdan Guskov. Oezdemir’s rear naked choke finish at 3 minutes and 46 seconds into the first round showcased his grappling proficiency and added another highlight to his impressive career.

Standout Performances

Benoît Saint-Denis continued his winning streak with a TKO victory over Thiago Moisés in the second round. This win marked his fourth consecutive victory and solidified his position as a rising star in the lightweight division.

William Gomis displayed his striking prowess with a TKO victory over Yanis Ghemmouri in the third round, further exciting the Parisian crowd.

Morgan Charriere, making his promotional debut, opened the main card with a bang by delivering a fantastic first-round knockout against Manolo Zecchini at 3 minutes and 51 seconds.

Preliminary Card Highlights

The preliminary card also featured several exciting bouts, including Taylor Lapilus’s unanimous decision victory over Caolán Loughran and Ange Loosa’s unanimous decision win over Rhys McKee. Nora Cornolle secured a unanimous decision victory over Joselyne Edwards, while Farid Basharat submitted Kleydson Rodrigues with an arm triangle choke in the first round.

Jacqueline Cavalcanti capped off the prelims with a unanimous decision victory over Zarah Fairn, adding to the night’s impressive performances.

UFC Paris delivered an unforgettable night of fights, showcasing the incredible talent and depth of the fighters on display. Ciryl Gane’s dominant performance in the main event solidified his status as a heavyweight contender, while Manon Fiorot’s triumphant flyweight debut opened up exciting possibilities in the women’s division.

With standout performances throughout the card and thrilling moments that left fans on the edge of their seats, UFC Paris proved that the sport of MMA continues to thrive in the heart of France. As the fighters look ahead to their next challenges, the UFC Paris event will undoubtedly be remembered as a night of fierce competition and unforgettable moments in the world of mixed martial arts.
