Born in Brasilia, Brazil, on April 21st, 1988, Moraes’ road to becoming a three-time ONE Championship Flyweight World Champion remains nothing short of unbelievable.

Early Years and Life Background

Moraes struggled through misfortunes during his youth. After his birth, his mother just left him alone, and he had to grow up in a Brasilia orphanage. Fortunately, destiny had something better planned: He was given to a sincere person whom he grew up to be like by being truly loved and supported. In this crucial stage of development, Moraes discovered an insatiable fascination with martial arts, which still remains alive within him.

At the age of seven, his mother enrolled him in judo classes, and that’s how he started his combat sports career. Fascinated by the martial arts world, he quickly realised he was getting deeply engaged in capoeira, a Brazilian art. But only after he got into bad company did Moraes really understand the relevance of self-defense. This resulted in his move into the realm of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and he found that he possessed a natural knack for grappling, which would become the basis for his future triumphs in mixed martial arts.

MMA Career

In 2011, Moraes stepped into the professional MMA world, and his journey is based on extraordinary resilience and talent display. He won dominantly from match to match across South America, thereby earning himself a regional belt, which fast-tracked his journey to the apex of glory.

When he went to the ONE Championship, Moraes made himself noticeable on the international platform by winning the first five intercontinental matches. Last year, he was crowned the ONE Flyweight World Title for the first time, and he became the dominant performer in that division.

Moraes had to encounter some bad moments, like a humiliating loss to Kairat Akhmetov in late 2015. Nevertheless, an indomitable attitude saw him get back the title thanks to an unbelievable series of wins. Through a breathtaking trilogy fight, he defeated Geje Eustaquio and reclaimed the status of the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion.

Retaining Titles and Leaving an Indelible Mark

Moraes earned his champion status by showing a line of dominant fights with some unforgettable moments. Despite the pandemic-induced setbacks, he nevertheless made sure he stood tall among the world MMA elite, defeating veteran Demetrious Johnson at ONE on TNT 1.
